Micro-tick updates also decrease input lag by making sure that the server reacts to your commands without delays or glitches. Valve's technological improvements to the game are only the beginning. Valve is currently implementing dynamic smoke and particle systems to improve how smoke interacts with the environment, and it's updating all maps with high-resolution lighting, textures and models.
